With immense pride I post here (finally) that my p With immense pride I post here (finally) that my paper is published in Nature Cell Biology! (link is in my bio).
~
And there is also a News & Views that gives a nice summary!
~
This project started in 2016 with a curious observation and grew into a collaboration between multiple labs with so many dedicated people without whom this paper would have never reached this level of success! I'm thankful for everyone for believing in this project and working with me.

We show for the first time that a molecular chaperone (DNAJB6) is involved in the biogenesis of nuclear pore complexes, and the maintenance of the disordered proteins that make up the transport barrier within the pore. Disordered proteins are crucial for many cellular functions, but are also at risk to aggregate and cause disease. DNAJB6 was already identified to prevent aggregation in diseases like Huntington, and now we show the exciting finding that DNAJB6 safeguards disordered proteins as well.
~
The next step of this research is in the capable hands of the new generation of PhDs and there are so many new exciting questions to be answered, both on DNAJB6 and the nuclear pore complex, this is only the start!

Today I'm on my way back to the US, and seeing everyone back home makes me home sick already, but I will back in three months! We will try the selfie again in December🎄😄❤️

My paper got editorial accepted a few weeks ago and this definitely needed a celebration with all the people who worked so hard on it over the last years🥳 We couldn't be more proud!
~
And yesterday we finally got the official acceptance! Soon we will know more on when it will be published🤓

I know I'm one day late for International Women's I know I'm one day late for International Women's Day, but I think there's never not a good day to celebrate the important women in your life!❤
~
The women in my life are strong, independent, vulnerable, loving, powerful, caring, open, honest, successful, and always themselves, and I love each and every one of them. And I wouldn't be the person I am without all of them in my life.
~
There are of course many many more incredible women in my life than only the ones in these three photos😊
~
Science fact: even the cell lines used in the lab for my research are female in origin (Hek293 and HeLa cells). These cells are crucial for scientists to understand how our cells function, and to study and find cures for diseases.
If you want to read more about cells used in labs, there's an interesting, but also confronting, book about Henrietta Lacks who's cells are the source of the HeLa cell line: "The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot.

Not your regular Monday😉 ~ This week truly flew Not your regular Monday😉
~
This week truly flew.. I think everything that happened on Monday is finally sinking in. I did it.. It feels nice, but also a bit empty and strange; the PhD and my time in the lab in Groningen is done. Now it's time for the preparations to begin to move to the US, as I will start there end of April.
~
On Monday I got so many nice gifts and the things I actually liked the most are all the nice words everyone said during and after the defense, and written on beautiful cards💌
The photo album I got (which was also really nice!) had few empty pages in the back and I put the cards there so I can read them again later.
~
My amazing paranymphs made it all happen and I was, and am, so grateful for these two by my side. And of course because they're a bit crazy as well😜
~
Love was felt and home will always be here for sure❤
